Inrange, CNT, McData – The Next Big Thing
[18-1-05 / hw] Frisch aus dem Ticker, wollen wir diese Meldung unseren Lesern nicht verheimlichen: „January 18, 2005 — In a major acceleration of its Global Enterprise Data Center strategy, CNT Corporation (Nasdaq: CMNT), a leading provider of storage networking solutions, today announced a definitive agreement to acquire Inrange Technologies (Nasdaq: INRG), a leader in the WAN extension/networking space providing storage area networking products, software, services and solutions. The all-cash transaction, valued at approximately $190 million in equity and debt (based on net debt as of October 31, 2004), will create a leader in enterprise storage networking. The combination of the companies’ complementary products and services will provide customers with the long-term confidence that their strategic requirements for a storage networking infrastructure needed for increased productivity, business continuity and regulatory compliance will be met.
“The opportunity to deliver a comprehensive, customer-driven storage networking solution to a more diverse enterprise market is compelling,” said Thomas G. Hudson, chairman, president and chief executive officer, CNT. “We believe this acquisition furthers our Global Enterprise Data Center strategy of delivering a broadened tiered network infrastructure to our customers and partners that provides access to information anytime, anywhere.”
Dies war fast wörtlich so zu lesen, als CNT am 7. April 2003 den Konkurrenten Inrange Technologies übernahm. Etwas besseres, so die Vertreter beider Unternehmen damals vollmundig, hätte den Kunden nicht passieren können: Synergien, wohin man nur schaut etc.pp. Es hat sich nichts geändert: In der obigen Meldung muß man nur CNT mit McData, Inrange mit CNT, cash durch stock sowie den Betrag austauschen – 235 statt damals 190 Millionen Dollar –, dann stimmt die Geschichte wieder. Und anstelle des CNT-Chefs Thomas G. Hudson muß der von McData stehen: John Kelley. Wieder einmal wird ein Deal zwischen Firmenbesitzern zum Glücksfall für die (speichernde) Menschheit hochstilisiert. Fragt sich nur: War das damals im April 2003 nur hohles Gerede? Und wenn dem so ist, ist es dann heute nicht genauso?
